Respect is a common emotion for humans, but sometimes we do it just for the sake of it, without realising its true meaning. Respecting someone is more than just wishing them good morning and addressing them as sir or ma’am; it has a deeper meaning to it.
What Is Respect?
Like every other emotion, we all have different notions of respecting someone. For some, it’s a simple act of being polite to the elders, and for others, it means agreeing to whatever someone says without questioning. However, do we know what it means to respect someone? Respecting someone is not just etiquette but a feeling that you see that person as an honourable human.
When you admire someone for who they are irrespective of their age or class, this emotion is known as respect.
Respecting someone based on their personality is a true act of respect. We all are taught to respect people because of their age or class, but respect should come from your heart.
How To Respect Someone?
Our society teaches young children to respect people, but they never really tell us why we should respect them.
We must attempt to learn why we must regard those around us. It would be best to respect someone for what they do and who they are. When someone tells you to respect a teacher, it is because they teach you about the world. Respect them because they have the knowledge and capability to teach you about the world around you. You should respect them for what they do.
How To Know If You Respect Someone?
Do you have a favourite artist, sportsman, actor/actress, or musician? Have you ever asked yourself why you want to be like them and why are they your role model?
You admire them for their work, and you treat them as your idol because you respect them. It is what it means to respect someone. If you appreciate someone for their work and not just for the sake of doing it, you know that you respect them.
However, does it mean that we do not respect someone who is not an actor, singer, or sportsman? Is respecting someone just bound to them being a celebrity? The answer is no; you can just admire someone who is not a celebrity but is good at what they do. Everyone has their definition of feelings, but no matter what you feel, don’t do it just because you have been asked to.
Respect and courtesy must come from the heart and must inspire others.
