Mothers play an important role in the upbringing of a child. In most cases, the mother, being the primary caregiver, invests a lot of her time tending to her child and their well-being. The bond between a mother and her child is one that is cherished and celebrated around the world. Numerous songs and poems have been written in all languages, acknowledging a mother’s role in our lives. Renowned rapper Kanye West even had his creative content company, Donda, named after his mother.
Mother’s Day is celebrated on the second Sunday of May every year in India. It is a day devoted to celebrating mothers and motherly figures in our lives. Children at school spend their day making Mother’s Day greeting cards, writing letters, buying gifts and planning one thing or the other to make Mother’s Day special for their moms.
Most schools organise Mother’s Day celebrations that involve mothers and kids coming together to play games and spend time together. In today’s modern world, many mothers are working women who juggle office and household responsibilities. Mother’s Day gives them the opportunity to spend some quality time with their children outside the home. It is vital to make time for our loved ones and make them feel valued and cherished. Mother’s Day gives us the opportunity to express our love and gratitude for all the motherly figures in our lives.
Typically, my mother and I would spend Mother’s Day baking cakes and cookies at home. It is one of our favourite things to do together. My mother is a pastry chef and bakes the best cakes in the world. I love it when she makes tiramisu or chocolate cake. Although she bakes for a living, she never gets tired of it. This year, we forwent the baking tradition and spent the day watching our favourite movies. We ordered takeout from all my mother’s favourite restaurants and enjoyed the evening all by ourselves. Being a busy woman, my mother rarely gets to spend a whole day at home doing nothing. Mother’s Day gave her the excuse to spend some time with me and relax at home without any worries.
Mother’s Day is a special day for many families. They set aside time to celebrate all that mothers do for the family. Even though mothers should be celebrated every day, it is nice to have a day dedicated to them.
